Dr. Marla Spivak, Distinguished McKnight University Professor Apiculture/Social Insects

The community will be invited to this Presentation at FH City Hall at 7:00 p.m. about the new Bee Research Lab Building and the research conducted there.

Co-Sponsored by: Falcon Heights – Lauderdale Lions Club, City of Falcon Heights, City of Lauderdale.

Wondering about the new building on Gortner Ave south of Larpenteur on the Saint Paul Campus? It’s tucked neatly in the agriculture fields for a good reason! It’s the new Bee and Pollinator Research Lab, where both native and honey bees who live in and around the building are studied. Dr. Marla Spivak will tell us all about them in this presentation. Learn about the Lab’s missions, research, activities, and discoveries being made there. There will be time for questions.

Dr. Spivak is a MacArthur Fellow and McKnight Distinguished Professor in Entomology at the University of Minnesota. She is an extension entomologist; teaches coursework about bees and bee-friendly landscaping, does extensive research in bee lifestyles, hygiene, illnesses, and health care; and teaches beekeeping for the public too! Her 2013 TED talk on “Disappearing Bees” has been seen 2.5 million times!
